ICT is HERE!!! (Week11)

       
       Last week, my friends and I learned about CALL or Computer Assisted Language Learning system, so we are going to learn about the technology that is used to communicate and finding or sharing information called "ICT" or " Information Communication Technology." ICT or  Information Communication Technology is the stand for and phrase or words that is used to call all technology that is used to communicate in the name of finding and sharing information such as computer, smartphone, or tablet. And it's sure that we don't learned about the technology itself like how many version of computer, which tablet is the best. No! We don't learned those stuff. What we learned in Seminar in English class this week is how can we use ICT in enhancing or boosting teaching English language. This topic is almost the same topic with CALL because is also one part of ICT in technique. So this week we still go round and round  the CALL again, but we learned more about the computer programs that can help the learners learn English language or actually any languages that the programs support like English leaning applications in smartphone such as FluentU English, Rosetta Course or etc.  However, I think the ICT or CALL can be a little help in leaning language because the applications or technology themselves can't tell us the solution to solve the problem when we struck at something in the language.

Here comes the CALL!!! (Week10)

       
       Today, my friends and I learned about CALL in Seminar in English class. CALL or Computer Assisted Language Learning is a system or learning language which is using internet in supporting in learning process. We learned about CALL through the article "Computer Assisted Language Learning: an Introduction by Mark Warshauer." This article contains a lot of information about the history of CALL which is suggested that human uses computer to serve as a tool of studying language for a long time. Then the question is "Why don't we manage to push it more further by making it becomes something more than a plain computer that shows texts and structure?" With the idea of making the computer becoming more advance and suitable for learning language, they manage to upgrade and put in more function to the computer to make it able to serve for all language skills such as grammar, listening, pronunciation, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary. And when they finished putting those things such as speaker, microphone, software, and etc. to upgrade the computer, we called the results of upgrading computer that is ready to serve language teaching in all purpose. "CALL" or "Computer Assisted Language Learning" as I informed you before. With the CALL, the idea of "CMC" or "Computer Mediated Communication" is become more clarify. It likes CALL is one of the producation of CMC. For me, I don't really care about the production of, what source of it, or how it becomes something like that. I think as long as it keeps the world going better and better is okay.

Factors Once More!!! (Week 9)

       
       Even we studied something like the standard factors that affect the teaching English with Ms. Usa last week, but we still need to learn  about the real affecting teaching English factors. So, Ms. Usa gave us the article name "Factors Affecting English Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education by Hong Thi Nguyen , Wendy Warren, and Heather  Fehring" to use to study as a reference today. It's about the research that aims for exploring the factors that affects the efficiency of non-major English teaching and learning in Vietnamese higher education. The research takes place at HUTECH or Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The research findings show us about the factors that affect the teaching English. Most of the factors are mostly same as the standard ones; students' age, learner difference, motivation, and teacher, but the researchers had discriminate the factors into good factors and bad factors. For example, there are motivate factors, so there must be demotivate factors too. Once we got and finished reading the article, we listed the good and bad factors then presented what we found in front of the class. This presentation makes me feel fun too. Because I have chances to explain how I think about my county education to my teacher and my friends in the same time.

Let's Finish the Factors!!! (Week8)

        Well...this is 7 March 2017 learning reflection because we have other seminar that is held by the university on 21 February 2017. About 7 March 2017 learning reflection, Ms. Usa took control of the class in whole time. We still studied about the factors, but we learned about what educators and teachers actually think about factors that affecting English teaching this time. That's why Ms. Usa had to take control of the class this time. Not only explaining about the factors that affect the English teaching, Ms. Usa also summarizes the previous lessons that we had learned already such as ESL context, EFL context, CLT approach, and etc. At the end of the class, Ms. Usa told us to think about the English learning problems in Thailand, then discuss and presented in front of the class. About the English learning problems in Thailand, the problems are mostly same as the English learning in EFL context, but the main problem in Thailand is the lack of ability to communicate in English language. Still my "Sleeping" problem causes me trouble in this week too. When Ms. Usa began to summarize the lessons through presentation and slides, I suddenly fell as sleep. I never consider this problem as a trouble before. Until, Ms. Usa said that she lost her confident in teaching because I fell asleep during her speech. This look bad!, sounds Bad!, IS Bad!

Don't have much to say...maybe factors? (Week7)

       

       In this week, Ms. Usa wants us to go deeper into the factors that's affecting the English teaching in the easier understanding way. Ms. Usa divided the factors in to students' age, learner difference, motivation, and teacher. I felt like I had already learned about these factors in that time because I had already learned a little about it in  Classroom Management subject. In Classroom Management subject, Ms. Jariya turned on a video name, "Kru Somporn Kon Son Ring" or Mr. Somporn the monkey trainer, then let us try to learn about the factors which Mr. Somporn mentioned in the video. The factors, which are mentioned by Mr. Somporn, are exactly same with the ones that Ms. Usa is introducing. Therefore, we linked the video from Classroom Management subject as the examples when Ms. Usa want us to discuss and present in front of the class. I know that I don't have much to tell about this week. It doesn't like I don't know what to say, but mostly of things i say in class this week are my own ideas. So, I don't want to put it in my learning reflection or it will turn to be the brain washing article instead. So, Good luck everyone. 

Experiences Sharing and Talking about Factors (Week6)

       This time, Ms. Usa began the class with the experiences sharing by two of my friends who just come back form exchanging students to training in teaching scholarship from Philippines and Indonesia. They are Maturin, who was training teaching in Philippines and Satit, who was training teaching in Indonesia. Actually, I had been in Philippines for one month from the other scholarship before, so I didn't interest in Maturin experiences sharing as much as it should be. But I have learned many strange things form Satit's training teaching experiences in Indonesia such as Indonesian teachers and students will come to the class late about 15 - 30 minutes. Most of things in Satit's training teaching experiences is really ridiculous and useful in the same time for me. After that Ms. Usa gave us the article about classroom learning contexts and teachers' descriptions. There are samples from three countries; Malaysia, Mozambique, and China. After we finished reading the article, we listed the main topics and discussed in group to be ready to present if Ms. Usa wants us to present out work in front of the class again. But this time, Ms. Usa  wants us to state the techniques that were used by the teachers from Malaysia, Mozambique, and China instead according to the specific topics such as the use of time, use of space, and etc. That makes me a little bit upset because I can't do the work in my way. However, our group work and presentation go well. No problem occurs in our work and presentation. Actually, it's easier to get the job done with the giving topics because we know exactly what are we going to look for and put it in the form. At the end of the class Ms. Usa assign us to do the brainstorming about the factors affecting the English teaching that I mentioned about last week, so it's quite easy for me to talk about it and give some examples to support my ideas.

Teaching English in Asian Context...? (Week5)

 

      Alright, I wanna talk about the thing I mentioned last time. About the "How to make the students do not bored in classroom" technique. I see that it doesn't work only for me. To tell you the truth, I was trying to fix this problem before by using many methods such as a shocking pen or hitting myself, but they didn't work anyway. I found that I have to do something I interested in to keep me awake. Well...that's how one of my problem goes. Furthermore,  it's not about my learning reflection in seminar course too. Now, let me inform you about my learning reflection in this week. In this week, Ms. Usa gave us the article name, The roles of English Language Education in Asian context by Bok-Myung to discuss in class.I read the article silently at first in my group before we started discussing things that stated in the article. My group used a really short time to discuss about the matter in the article because the things that suggested in the article is mostly as same as the different between ESL context and EFL context. The article itself tried to inform is about the general information and the environments of the teaching English in Asian context which is exactly the same. So, why is the teaching English  in Asian context and the teaching English  in EFL context the same? It's because mostly countries in Asia teaches English in EFL context. However, there are some parts in this article which show some interesting things such as the factors that affect the English teaching and many samples form many countries. It makes me think that Bok - Myung is one of the great man because Bok-Myung  gathered a lot of information from many countries which is needed to use a lot of time and money. It makes me think that why he has to waste those things for an article. At last, I presented the things I find interesting to my friends in front of class and it actually takes time more than Ms. Usa gave for each group's presentation. I'm not sure that my friends are satisfying or annoying with my presentation  because I always presents my work overtime. I do that because I want to tell them what I want them to know and I'm sure that it'll be useful for them in the future.

How different are ESL and EFL? (Week4)

      Last time, Miss Usa assigned my friends and me to research about the different between TESL(The Teaching English as a Second Language) and TEFL(The Teaching English as a Foreign Language), so here is our summary. TESL is a way to teaching English in the country or places where English has highly demanded. For example. the using English as an official language in once colonized country such as India, Singapore, and etc. In those country, English language is really important to the people who live there. It's almost like if you're unable to speak English, you're going to die or something like that. So the intensity of teaching and studying English in those countries is really intense, while TEFL has much lower intensity than TESL. However, most of the functions and its goal are the same -"To be able to use English to communicate with other people." After we presented our research about TESL and TEFL, Miss Usa began to teaches about "How to make the students do not bored in classroom." This one is quite interesting for me because I always fall asleep while the teacher is describing something or giving lecture. Well, I don't really want to say this, but as soon as Miss Usa began to describing or giving lecture. I fall asleep...It looks like your "How to make the students do not bored in classroom" doesn't work or it might not working only for me?!!

Lingual Franca...? (Week3)

       English has many branches which is separated from its own origin and its uses. Back to the time of an Old English where people from tribes were still fighting to each other for land or food or etc. they want to, but they still say English language. The English language in each tribe has their own unique which make it hard to people from other tribes to understand, but they're still be the English language. Later in the Middle English, the great war spread around the European land. It eradicates many tribes out of the history face, but still creates another good thing too. It unities the English language from the many tribes to make it become one. In the Early Modern English, the colonialism causes England to invade the other lands to make colonies. Many lands or countries lost to England and have to adapt English as their one of their own official languages. Still, England sends people of its own to the land that they called "New World" or American to create a new colony which is later set itself free from England. This is the beginning of "World Englishes ". Until now, In the age of Late Modern English, there still be more and more new Englishes were born. So what is Lingual Franca? Well, it is the ways of studying English as same as ENL, ESL, EFL and EIL ,but Lingual Franca is focus on trading in term of the people who don't share a native language or dialect. Not only Lingual Franca meant to be for commercial, but also for religious, cultural, or etc.

How did it happen? (Week2)

       Last week, I was told in the class that we are going to discuss about the teaching method for Communicative Language Teaching which is used in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I'm really excited and eager to discuss about this topic to show my point of view or my attitude toward CLT. Especially, when Miss Usa gave me the article sheet name, The End of CLT which shows the weakness of CLT approach. But some thing happened, I...woke up late... It's not just the normally late. I was very late...extremely late. I woke up at ten o'clock while Miss Usa's class starts at eight thirty in the morning. I rushed out of my room. Actually, I didn't even take a bath that morning. I tried my best to get to the classroom as soon as I can, but it was too late. Miss Usa had to go to the meeting in the conference room at ten thirty in the morning, and it was too late by the time I arrived. I don't know what to say. I don't have any excuses. It was all my fault, but at least least, let me say "Sorry" to you here Miss Usa. I can't promise to you that I won't be late again or I won't fall as sleep in your class again. But I'll try to improve my self next time.

First Seminar! (Week1)

        When I first saw Seminar in English subject, which is taught by Miss Usa Noytim, on my class schedule list, I didn't really think about the weblog because she already used the weblog teaching technique to teach us. However, I was told that I had to write the weblog again after I had studied my first class. Well, writing a weblog is not a big deal for me. For the first week, Miss Usa explained the course syllabus then she tested our requisite knowledge for Seminar in English class by separating us into 4 groups according to 4 subjects which are the requisites for Seminar in English class. My group got Teaching English Methodology 1, so my friends and I tried our best to think about what we had learned in that subject, and these are the things we can think of:

1. The Development of English - English has developed through 4 phrases of time, Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English, and Late Modern English.

2. The Circle of English by Krachu - Inner Circle (native), Outer Circle (second language), and Expanding Circle (foreign language).

3. The English Language Teaching - English as a Native Language (ENL), English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English as an International Language (EIL), and English as a Lingual Franca  (ELF).

4. The Different Approach - Grammar Translation Method, Direct Method, Audio Lingual Method, The Silent Way, Suggestopedia Method, Total Physical Respond Method, Community Language Learning, and Communicative Approach.

5. Step of Teaching - Warm up, 3Ps - Prensentaion, Practice, Production

6. Teaching Vocabulary, Grammar, Listening skill, Speaking skill, Reading skill, and Writing skill.

       Think of what we had learned in entire last year really made us fell exhaust, but it was fun too. At the end of the class, Ms. Usa gave us the article which topic name is "The End of CLT" and she told us that we are going to debate about Communicative Language Teaching in the next time we meet, so we have to read this article before we come to study in the class. That really makes me feel excited!
